Bus Travel downside #1

I can't... I can't even write this blog post well without feeling travel sick (at this point I am glad of slow moving traffic!).

How can people read on buses!

Thank goodness for audio books and music!

Goodbye Old Friend...

Today I said goodbye to an old friend.  A friend I have had for seven years, who has got me from A to B, and even C & D on the odd occasion, too. Marvin T. Micra. After a lot of soul-searching, and wallet-searching, I came to the conclusion that given his recent check up at the doctors (read: MOT at the Garage) it was time to put the old boy out to pasture. For the first time in a long time I am without a car.  The last instance I can remember was 2006 on my return from travelling, where I borrowed my mum's Micra between returning from New Zealand, and the purchase of Sam the Seat (Yes, I name my cars...). These days I am within cycling distance from work, in fact it would take me the same time to cycle to work as it would to drive to a suitable (read: free) place to park and walk the remaining distance to the office.  I am on a good bus route where I live, and only a short hop to Birmingham New Street on the train, from which I can get to pretty much anywhere...

New Year's Resolutions

I can't quite believe it's been 2 months since I sold my car!  The time seems to have flown by, and it almost feels like I never had one, now! I started off with the best of intentions to cycle to work whenever I'm in the office; I got my bike through the Cycle to Work scheme at the end of October, and for the first few weeks I was settling in to good habits.  Unfortunately, trading your car for a bike at the on-set of winter has its downsides - I got one bug, then another, and then we had snow which made cycling rather treacherous - especially on un-salted cycle paths. So fast-forward to 2018, and a new year's resolution to make sure I cycle to work as often as possible.  I haven't used the bus on my commute at all so far, and (snow and health permitting) will continue to brave the elements no matter what it throws at me; I've gone through sunshine, frost and wind, but still got to cross off heavy-rain, snow, and fog off my weather bingo card!
